Have no fear, the Sexual Health Resource Centre is here!
Students looking for confidential, free and non-judgmental advice from fellow students can visit the SHRC on campus. Located inside the Campus Health Centre, the Sexual Health Resource Clinic is a cozy, friendly place to go and speak about matters regarding sexuality and sexual health.
Along with friendly advice, students can call or drop by the SHRC for information and referrals about STD’s, safe sex, relationships, pregnancy and contraception. An on-site library and educational teach-in sessions are also available upon request.
For those who are too shy to ask personal questions face-to-face, the SHRC has an anonymous online chat on its website, http://campus-shrc.ca
The SHRC is run by student volunteers, or “Sexperts” who can help you choose non-prescription safe sex products which are sold at discount prices inside the clinic. The Sexperts also offer a confidential clinic accompaniment service for those needing someone by their side for moral support and company to visits to the clinic.
Sexperts are recruited at the beginning of each semester and anyone can volunteer. No experience is necessary and students can receive co-curricular recognition for their work as a campus Sexpert.
Sexpert Bradley Bartlett, a fourth-year Concurrent Education student at UOIT, says in order to be a Sexpert, you need to have an open outlook on sexuality and matters of sexual health, “Anyone who is open minded and willing to learn can become a Sexpert.”
“We offer referrals for any issue students may have and refer them to the appropriate doctors and counseling services,” said Bartlett.
