Learn Event Planning at Durham

Jayne Davis is the program assistant for distance education at Durham College.

So, you had an entertaining and enjoyable night. The event was promoted in advance, the location complimented the theme, it ran smoothly and everything was very well planned.

Who was in charge of that great event and how did they put everything together? One day soon, it could be YOU, after you learn all the essentials needed to plan events in public and private sectors.

Durham College offers a distance education certificate program called Event Planning. It is designed to teach the basics of event planning such as advertising and promotion, financial planning and environmental sustainability.

Willy Mastin-Forsythe, morning receptionist for the Continuing Education office, said the Event Planning certificate could be achieved by fulfilling the requirements for the 12 courses in the program. Students are allowed up to five years to complete everything. Once completed, they can apply for their certificate.
